Symbolic clay sculpture portrait

I chose to make Gordie from the movie Stand by me. He is not quiet but he is not outspoken, he's brave and a little scrawny. I've chosen to use a coyote to represent Gordie. In the movie he has a lot of freedom, so I chose to put him alone in a jail cell because he is usually free and spending time with his friends.

Symbolic Portrait

I chose to make my portrait about Tupac Shakur, a rapper from the 90's. I chose to do him because I think that his life/death are interesting. I also enjoy his expression through his music. I am going to use different metaphors from all of his music in my piece. The story of his death has been very questionable since then and i somehow intend to use that in my art.

Visiting artist: Hamlett Dobbins.

I think that this piece from "every one, every day" is not only good, but now one of my favorite paintings. I've never seen a piece of art like this that made me focus on it for so long. The way the he makes the background blurred and that one chunk of white and red very sharp, makes it look like that red and white were hovering fast through a blue city and someone snapped a picture of it. I think that this piece relates to the rest of his art because it is so simple yet so complex at the same time. The art he makes challenges your mind to think about what that piece might be, and once you start analyzing more you start to realize that there is a lot more detail than you might have seen previously. I would really like to know what materials he used for this piece and how he made the background seem so blurred.
